Outstanding in the Field takes the term "meals on wheels" to an entirely new level. In fact - someone should slap me for even uttering that trite phrase in the same sentence as their good name.
This is a group of star chefs who tour the North American countryside in a brightly colored bus. They make planned stops at well-known farms, where they host fantastic outdoor dinner parties using just-harvested, fresh organic ingredients supplied by the farmers and other local culinary artisans.
Created by Jim Denevan, noted for his work as the Executive Chef of Gabriella Café, the concept behind Outstanding in the Field is "to dine at the source on the very soil that nourished the bounty on the plate, in the company of the farmers who cultivated it."
And let me add: the culinary wizards of OutstandingintheField.com are doing anything but standing while out in the field. They're firing up the grill, laying down the linen, setting out the silver, pouring the wine, fussing with the garnish, comingling with the guests, and doing everything that is required to prepare and present a dynamite meal in the most pleasing and picturesque way possible.
How do I know about this troupe of creative chefs and their wanderlusty ways? One of them was my brother's old roommate!
