Most people think that the more they generalize in their marketing communication, the wider net they'll cast and therefore the more customers they will gain. This is simply not true. As many web marketers before me have stated, the trick is to use wording that's TARGETED and SPECIFIC. So if you're a coach and you enjoy working with people who have gone through divorces, then say that. "Support for the Recently Divorced." "Life After Divorce," etc.
You may ask yourself, "But what if some of the people who arrive at my site aren't divorced? Won't my words scare them away?" That's the beauty of website communication. Today you're talking to the recently divorced, tomorrow you're attracting people who want to improve their eating habits.
What happens when you target is this: the people who come to you ALREADY want what you have. They are READY to buy. They're sold. Their problems are pressing to be solved and they want it to happen NOW. You've spoken their language, identified SPECIFICALLY that you can help, and that's why they're itching to work with you.
Blogs are PERFECT for highly targeted marketing communication. Once you get into the habit of posting regularly, your blog will get indexed. Next, every time you post about a SPECIFIC topic or issue, Google registers that. Searchers type into the box, and voila, you're right there.
