Next time you have occasion to "disagree" with
someone who comments on your blog, ask yourself: am I really disagreeing? Or am
I simply ADDING to what this person is saying?
(I know - it doesn't seem like a big deal, but when you're in copywriting, you learn that every tiny word and punctuation mark affects the message).
Something as seemingly
insignificant as a few poorly chosen words can mean the difference between someone
who leaves your site with a bad taste in their mouth, and someone whose respect
and admiration you just earned.
Point well taken, you say. But what are these mysterious words and phrases I should be avoiding, and what do I say in their place?
"I disagree."
"You're wrong."
"That's incorrect."
"You don't understand."
"You don't know what you're talking about."
"You're mistaken in saying..."
Better choices:
"Good point, and I'd like to add..."
"As I see it..."
"Perhaps I am misunderstanding your meaning."
"In my opinion/experience..."
"What I'm getting from your message is..."
"If I may clarify..."
"That's true, and also..."
"I respect your opinion, and let me also add that..."

If your blogs are associated with your online business you have to be especially careful what you post and how you post it! Your online "brand" or identity is associated with your posts and it's important to keep your image professional. Additionally, if you post a raving rant you stand the chance of attracting all those strange little people who lurk around cyberspace just looking for someone to pester, lol!
I'm bookmarking this post so I always have access to your better choices!
